Objective
The goal of the LearnArch project is to create an innovative and interactive learning tool to help adult educators teach architectural concepts in a more engaging and effective way. Through a collaborative partnership, the project aims to develop a versatile board game that fosters creativity, teamwork, and critical thinking while simplifying complex architectural principles.
Background
In today’s evolving educational landscape, there is a need for innovative and non-formal educational tools that can captivate adult learners, particularly those from disadvantaged backgrounds or underrepresented groups. Architecture, with its complex and often abstract principles, is one such field that could greatly benefit from interactive learning methods. The LearnArch project responds to this need by introducing a board game that simplifies and gamifies architectural education, making it more accessible and inclusive.
About the project
LearnArch is an Erasmus+ co-funded project, a collaboration between three partners from Romania, Greece, and Portugal. The project focuses on creating a dynamic and accessible board game tool, aimed at helping adult learners engage with architectural concepts in a fun and interactive way. Through its development and testing phases, this tool is designed to support educators and institutions in making architecture education more approachable, practical, and stimulating for diverse target groups.
Improve Trainer Competencies 👩‍🏫
Equip adult educators with a new, creative teaching tool that will diversify their training methods and enhance their teaching practices, helping them effectively engage students in architecture.
Promote Inclusion & Diversity 🌍
Ensure that the LearnArch board game is adaptable to various educational settings and accessible to learners from different backgrounds, encouraging social inclusion and participation across cultures and communities.
Promote active youth engagement
Encourage young people to participate in democratic processes and community activities.
Light Box – LearnArch’ board game tool
Light Box is a board game for 1-4 players (or 1-4 groups of players) available in 4 languages: EN, RO, GR and PT, aiming to introduce the players to architectural concepts and challenges, and allow them to collaborate in order to reach the game’s objective.

A set of 18 Influence and 18 Team goal cards represent strategic elements and objectives, guiding players’ actions and aiming to fulfill specific goals in the game.
You can download a set of 18 Influence cards and one of 18 Team goal cards. These are just a sample of what the game could have. To better understand how to create cards in the context of lessons we recommend to look at the Trainer’s advice booklet. You can find it on this Downloads page.
A collection of volumes are chosen by the trainer to match lesson goals and complexity. 4 part boards (quarter boxes) will be used by the players to place the pieces of the game.
Here are the volumes picked for the Default version of the game and some versions of the boards. The trainer decides before the beginning of the game what type of volumes and what boards the players will use. This decision will take into consideration what the lesson is, the familiarity of the level of complexity and other factors as showcased in the Trainer’s advice.
A guide detailing how to play, win, and strategies of the board game, that can be modified by the trainer as needed.
The basic rules of the game are found in this document. These rules are recommendations of our game design team and can be modified by the trainer as needed. The way the trainer can change the rules as well as in depth look of the game functions can be found in the Trainer’s advice booklet – the next downloadable asset.
