One World – Design for Inclusion: starting with understanding

No inclusive game design process can begin without first understanding the people it is meant to support.
As part of the Erasmus+ project “One World – Design for Inclusion”, Dracon Rules Design Studio participated in the experiential course “Strategies to optimize learning for people with Intellectual Disabilities”, hosted and facilitated by Asociatia Share Education in Arad, Romania.
The first part of the course focused on the theoretical foundation of intellectual disability. Participants explored different levels and characteristics of intellectual disability, the needs of learners, and the role of facilitators when working with people with intellectual disabilities.
The sessions also included discussions about communication, behaviour, learning support, reward-based approaches, and the use of simple games and everyday objects as educational tools. These conversations helped participants better understand how games can become more accessible, meaningful and supportive when they are adapted to the real needs of the people using them.
For Dracon, this was an important step in connecting game design with empathy, care and inclusion. The knowledge gained during these sessions became the basis for the practical activities that followed during the mobility.
