One World: testing inclusive games in real conditions

One of the most important moments of the “One World – Design for Inclusion” project was the hands-on testing of the games created during the course.

After several days of learning, discussion and practical preparation, Dracon’s participants had the opportunity to test their draft games in real conditions, together with people with intellectual disabilities. The activity took place in Arad, Romania, with the collaboration of Integra Arad ONG and the support of Asociatia Share Education.

This testing moment brought together everything the participants had learned during the mobility: the input of psychologists, trainers, volunteers, caregivers and organisations working directly with people with intellectual disabilities.

The interaction with the participants from Integra was a valuable learning experience. It allowed Dracon’s team to observe how the games worked in practice, what needed to be adapted, and how players reacted to the activities. With the help of Integra’s volunteers, feedback was collected and translated into useful insights for improving the games.

The participants also joined round table discussions with parents and caregivers of people with intellectual disabilities. These discussions offered an important perspective on the functionality of the drafted games, their possible use, and the emotional response of the players during the sessions.

For Dracon, this activity confirmed that inclusive game design must be built together with the people, families and professionals connected to the target group. The experience strengthened our commitment to designing games that are not only educational, but also accessible, respectful and joyful.
