TeachBlue Newsletter #4: The TeachBlue conference – “Marine education begins in kindergarten”

Alt Text

The TeachBlue conference – “Marine education begins in kindergarten” took place as a structured one-day event, bringing together educators to explore how marine awareness can be introduced from early childhood.

The programme combined presentations on Erasmus+ project origins, research findings, and curriculum results with practical demonstrations (games, multimedia tools, 360° videos) and teachers’ real-life experiences, alongside interactive group activities and reflections to support the integration of marine education into kindergarten practice.

🌍 Bringing Ocean Literacy into Early Education

The TeachBlue Conference in Poland focused on a powerful idea: marine education begins in kindergarten.

Educators gathered to explore how ocean awareness can be introduced to children aged 4–8 through engaging and accessible methods. The event combined:

  • Presentations on project research and results
  • Demonstrations of educational tools
  • Interactive activities and reflections

Teachers also had the opportunity to experience innovative resources such as educational games, multimedia tools, and immersive 360° videos, all designed to make learning about the ocean both fun and meaningful.

🎓 From Theory to Practice

Beyond theory, TeachBlue focuses on practical implementation in classrooms.

During dedicated sessions, educators, researchers, and experts explored:

  • Sustainable management of marine resources
  • The TeachBlue educational toolkit
  • Game-based learning approaches
  • Teacher training methods

A key highlight was the hands-on workshop, where participants actively engaged with the tools and shared their experiences from pilot implementations in schools. This approach ensures that teachers are not only informed, but also equipped to apply ocean literacy in real classroom settings.
